Harvest 'ballet' joyous occasion despite tough times, says Shelton farmer

Farmers use many words to describe harvest time. Deb Gangwish prefers “ballet.” Gangwish and her husband, Paul, operate PG Farms north of Shelton, a diversified business that centers on an 80 percent-20 percent mix of irrigated, no-till corn and soybeans. The corn crop includes a few hundred acres of seed corn produced for Monsanto, for which harvest began Aug. 26.
